  A reprisal of their program at AALL Portland, they will share their experiences as librarian liaisons with HALL members and will allow lots of time for members' questions. Specific topics will include understanding the essential role of the gatekeeper, recognizing the librarian's power in negotiations and learning how vendors can help librarians.

  Identity Theft
  
  Identity Theft Fraud related to activity in connection with identification documents, authentication features, and information.  The Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act (2003)[ITADA] amended U.S. Code Title 18, 1028
  
  Richard Alderman, Houston's own "People's Lawyer" and Professor of Law at the University of Houston
  
       Prof. Alderman will lead our program with a discussion on the impact of identity theft on the individual consumer by offering proven strategies on the prevention and detection of, and the recovery from, this growing fraudulent scheme.

       Learn tactics on how to protect our personal information while we are using our home computers.
  
  Our final session features a panel discussion by vendors of personal information databases. They will discuss the ethical responsibilities of the librarians who use the databases and explain the laws that regulate what the search results may be.  We are expecting representatives from WestLaw, Lexis Nexis, Accurint, Choicepoint and Lois Law to participate in this panel discussion.

  Peanut Butter and Pantyhose: a HALL Community Service Committee Event
  
  During his return visit, Curtis McMinn, Volunteer Services Coordinator at the Houston Food Bank, will deliver a presentation about hunger in the Gulf Coast community and the successful efforts of his organization to combat food insecurity. The Houston Food Bank has recently joined forces with the End Hunger Network; Curtis will discuss this merger and explain how the newly united organizations are helping the residents of the 18 counties they serve, especially those impacted by Hurricane Ike and the downturn in the economy.
